With these reading wrap-ups I won’t include major spoilers, but it will include my general feelings towards the read, common knowledge about the book, and common tropes and themes within the book so if any of these qualify as spoilers for you then stop here! As always check books for any potential triggers you may have because I will quite literally read ANYTHING.
I spent January and February stuck in the worst reading slump I’ve had since I really dove back into reading for a hobby nearly a year ago so rather than do separate posts I’m putting them together!
The assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas

This was a re-read for me as I was still living in Delulu-land and convinced myself I was going to get through the entirety of SJM before the release of House of Flame and Shadow. Spoiler Alert: I didn’t and Heir of Fire is still sitting on my Goodreads Currently Reading. This series will always be one of my first fantasy recs and if you haven’t read all of SJM, what are you waiting for?! Also I’ll forever die on the hill that you should read AB before TOG. Sorry romantic order readers.
Finding Mayhem by Layla Frost

I’m gonna give you a warning that if you don’t like books featuring pregnancy you’ll want to skip this one. If you have any potential triggers this is also one you’ll want to check is safe for you to read. That being said I absolutely loved this. It was the right amount of motorcycle romance and fuzzy feel-good and it was everything I needed during this reading slump. This book is available on Kindle Unlimited.
A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair

This was a read for a local book club, if you’re in or near Murphy NC check out Narrative Books & Records as they have a great Book Club and Romance Book Club and are the cutest bookstore in this area! I was obsessed with this book. I think my husband heard me talk about it nightly while I was reading. Hades is swoon-worthy and Persephone is… also swoon-worthy. It’s full of tension and banter and I loved every second of it. I haven’t read many re-tellings but I’m a major fan of this one! This book is available on Kindle Unlimited.
House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J. Maas

Okay so real talk: I have mixed feelings about this book but I’m holding off on major commentary until the series is finished, yes I’ll be biting my tongue on this for quite a while. If you’ve read this you’ve seen the complaints but because I’m an SJM die-hard I feel like my girl has a plan. I don’t know what it is but I’m telling myself she does. Somehow my unpopular opinion is that I absolutely love Hunt Athalar. He’s different from other SJM MMC’s but I think it’s in a good way. Once again if you haven’t found yourself trapped in worlds of SJM you should totally get on that.
Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas

To be honest this was my husband’s random pick out of my 800+ TBR on Goodreads and it really wasn’t my cup of tea. I struggled a bit with some of the writing and the behavior of the characters BUT I’m most likely going to try reading at least the next book in the series because holy mother of cliffhangers did this book have one. I love a good why choose and I love enemies-to-lovers so I desperately want to like this series. This book is available on Kindle Unlimited.
American Queen by Sierra Simone

I need someone to explain why I put off this why choose for this long. Explain why I’m like this, please. I was OBSESSED with this freaking book. I am obsessed with any why choose that involves sword crossing because I feel like there’s so much more emotional connection between the characters. It ends with a cliffhanger so don’t be like me and not have the next book on hand.
What did you reading January and February? Have you read any of these? Please keep the comments free of spoilers or warn that you’re going to include spoilers!
